Gilbert - A Fun Vacation (Day 1, part 3)

We visited the Propsteikirche (church of the priory, I think...) next.

I love this door.

Isn't this a beautiful church?!

Front view.

There was a statue on the building next to the church.

I wonder if maybe it once was part of the church or maybe from the priory.

Gratuitous sky picture.

Next we wanted to visit the cemetery close to the church. There was a company that makes gravestones next to the cemetery. They had this elephant. I wonder if it is a grave monument or if they want to use it for something else.

The cemetery was beautiful and peaceful.

After visiting the graveyard we went back to Diana's house and had a fun evening.

Next: Twente

Gilbert - A Fun Vacation (day 1, part 2)

After visiting the tea museum it was time to actually drink some tea. They had lots of different tea and flavors. We settles on Hot & Spicy Green Tea.

(They tried to bring us Hot & Spicy Rooibos tea, but as I don't like Rooibos we asked for them to bring us the Green Tea we ordered.)

We also got a Cream Tea. That's a small High Tea apparently. It had lots of yummy snacks: chocolate muffins, scones, and cream cheese sandwiches.

The scones came with jam and whipped cream. I think they should have clotted cream, but the whipped cream was yummy as well.

The Hot & Spice Green Tea was delicious. It had chili pepper and cinnamon.

When we finished our Cream Tea we went back to the car and drove to Diana's house.

Which is in Germany!
We stopped to admire these white swamp flowers. No idea what they are though.

At Diana's house she showed us her collection of Lilliput Lane houses. There was one with a pineapple roof!

In the evening we went out to eat in Meppen.

There were statues of guys doing... something. I think the one guy lost whatever he had in his hands.

Waldgasthof Röckers

There was a wooden duck on our table so people knew we had a reservation,

My owner had what Sullivan calls Evil Food! But I got French fries. Yum!

There was a chicken on the table. It was very friendly.

After dinner we looked around the garden of the restaurant.

I think this means there was a bakery here once.

Next we did some more sightseeing in Meppen.
We saw this mill.

Which was next to a river.

It was a lovely spot.

There even was still a maypole from the May Day Celebration were they celebrate the return of spring.

Coming next: A Church and more

Gilbert - A Fun Vacation (part 1)

Last Wednesday my owner told me to pack my suitcase, because we were going on a trip.

My owner's friend Diana picked us up and soon we were on our way to the Groninger countryside.

A Church!
I love visiting churches, they're very interesting.

They had a teapot fountain in the garden. Never saw that at a church before.

Another teapot!

It turns out this church was turned into a tearoom with a tea museum attached to it as well. When the church wasn't in use anymore they put it up for sale for 1 gulden (45 euro cents) for the person with the best idea for what to do with the church. The person who came up with turning it in a tearoom/museum won. It's called de Theefabriek (the Tea Factory)

First we visited the museum.
There was a bench that said T.leutbankje (T. drinker's bench).

There were pictures of a real tea factory.

A small scale model.
And lots of information on how tea is grown and made.

This is a model of the Cutty Sark. It used to sail to China in the 19th century to get tea there. The real Cutty Sark is in Greenwich and is still 90% in its original state.

This guy is Cornelis Bontekoe.
He was a doctor from the 17th century who thought tea was the cure for almost anything.

I'm not sure what kind of Lovecraftian Tea Monster this was, but it did like to be left alone, so I didn't stay to find out more.

This might have been the mad scientist who created the Lovecraftian Tea Monster.

Not much tea left in this box.

A display of old tea packaging.

There were doors in a wall, one of them had a dodo on it. I had to open it!

A copy of Alice in Wonderland!
Opened at the tea party with the mad hatter of course.

Australian tea thingies.

Barbie having tea.

The museum was fun, but not very big. We watched a movie about how tea is made as well, then it was time to try some tea of course.

Coming next: Tea, food, and more

Gilbert - Game Night

Last Thursday we went to a Game Night!
First we played Trial by Trolley
"One player acts as the Trolley Operator and must choose where to send a murderous, out of control, trolley. Every other player at the table plays cards and argues in order to convince the operator to spare their lives and condemn everyone on the other track to a gruesome death-by-trolley."

It's a fun game, although I didn't always agree on the 'evil' cards meant to make you want to drive over them. A shark with wings isn't something you should hit with a trolley in my opinion.

Next we played The Quacks of Quedlinburg.
In this game you get to brew magic potions, but if you're not careful your kettle may explode. Another fun game even though we lost.

It was a fun evening and I had a great time!
