Schiermonnikoog - Day 2 - Part 2

After visiting the lighthouse we walked to the beach.
At this point it is a very large beach with lots of plants and mud. We decided to walk a bit further along the beach to reach a part where we could reach the sea without trotting through the mud.

There were clouds coming closer.

But mostly it was still nice and sunny.

The road along the beach was flooded, so we had to walk on higher ground.

Dune spam.

Finally we reached the sea.
This is part of the beach pavilion. They remove the pavilion in winter, but let the platform stand to weather the sea.

There was a stiff breeze and I was just enjoying the sea air when a big hailstorm broke out.
Time to retreat.

We made our way back to the hotel and after a while the hail stopped.

We had gotten cold so at the hotel we warmed up with a mug of hot chocolate and Amaretto.
Yum!

We spent the rest of afternoon relaxing and reading.
In the evening we had dinner and I got to sit near the fireplace.

Dessert!

It was a really fun day,

Coming next: a walk to the bunker.

A Birthday Trip to Schiermonnikoog - Day 2

On Friday it was grey outside, but dry, so after breakfast we went for another walk.

This time we walked towards the lighthouse and the beach.

I love this lighthouse.
It's very beautiful, I think.

The dark clouds were breaking up a bit.

I can already see the sea.

The sun was starting to break through the clouds.
A beautiful sight.

Almost at the beach!

And there it was.
The beach on Schiermonnikoog is very long in some places, and there's even new dunes forming at one side of the island, while the sea eats up some of the island on the other side. This way the island 'moves'.

More beautiful clouds.

We walked on the beach for a while. There was a cold wind, but I kept my ears warm.

Finally we walked back to our hotel.

I spotted a weird bird statue along the way.

And after such a long walk I deserved another mug of hot chocolate and some amaretto of course!

In the afternoon we visited friends, and we had dinner at the hotel again. We spent the evening reading and relaxing again.
This is the life!

I Take a Walk on the Beach

Sunday morning, November 3rd, it was sunny and dry, so on my way to The Metropole hotel for the last day of WFC 2013 I decided to have a look around on the beach. It was beautiful.

A Trip to the Coast

Today we made a trip to the coast.
We had heard that because of the cold weather parts of the sea had frozen over so we wanted to see if that was true of course.

Here you see a canal that ends in the sea. It was indeed frozen.

Doesn't look safe to walk on though.

So we walked a bit closer to the sea.

And here I am!
Standing on a sea of ice, literally.

The ice looked very uneven and bubbly, but my owner told me that there was only a little bit of water underneath this ice, so even if the ice would break we wouldn't drown, just get our feet wet.

And look what I found:
It seems a bird tried to sit on the ice and got frozen to it. When he got free he left behind some of his feathers.

Beautiful sky and ice picture spam.

After a long walk on the ice we had a nice hot drink.

And Snert!
(Snert = Pea Soup)

It was a great afternoon!
