I totally forgot to tell you I got a lovely postcard from Hammie who went to Schiermonnikoog last week. Thanks for the card Hammie!
Anyway: Hammie's trip to Schiermonnikoog (a small island on the Northern coast of the Netherlands) made us want to go there too and as the weather forecast for today was a warm sunny day we decided to go to Schiermonnikoog!
It started out grey and cloudy, but we were hopeful and took a bus to Lauwersoog where we had to take a boat to Schiermonnikoog.
Once on Schiermonnikoog we rented bikes and the first place we visited was the 'Vredehof', a common wealth war cemetery. Soldiers from both WWI and WWII are buried there.
It's a peaceful, but also sad place. Lots of the soldiers buried there are unknown soldiers, only their country and the day they died is known.
Some one made crosses on a lot of the graves with pinecones. I think that was a very nice gesture.
Next we went to the beach!
I love to watch the waves. It still was grey though. Where is the nice weather they promised?
We looked for shells and I found a large shell that resembled an old-fashioned razor.
We took a nice walk along the beach and along the dunes.
I love Schiermonnikoog, but the weather kept getting worse and it even started to rain so after the beach and the dunes we didn't take anymore pictures.
Until we got back in Lauwersoog that is, where after a grey day suddenly the sun decided to appear again.
I had a great day, but I do hope the next time I visit Schiermonnikoog the weather will be a bit better than today!

It looks like you had a lovely outing. Thank you for sharing the pictures with us. :)
Sullivan,
It is nice to travel with you through your pictures no matter the weather. Love the beach pictures. There is something special about beach pictures even on cloudy days.
That looks like a lovely day out, even if they did lie about the weather. Our weathermen here lie a lot too. Andrea's motto is "Dress for all weather"!!!!!
Thanks everyone, I always love Schiermonnikoog no matter the weather.
It looks very pretty despite the rain.
What a beautiful place! That graveyard is a very moving place, and I like that someone made crosses out of the pine cones for them.
I've never been to the beach (Colorado has no beaches, being a land locked state and all), but your pictures make me want to see one!
