Prague - Town Hall, Drinks and Food

On the Old town Square you can find the Town Hall. It's the building with the tower.

The Town Hall has a really big clock on its wall.
The clock is a tourist attraction as there's lots of cool stuff on the clock that moves when the clock strikes the hour.

I wasn't so lucky to be there when that happened though.
Still it's a very cool clock.

What I liked most about the Town Hall was a door that had lions on it! This one even has a goblin in his mouth!

And this one looks a bit more friendly than the goblin eater.


And now especially for Beanie some food and drinks pictures:

They had really tasty dark beer everywhere in Prague.

We found a restaurant called Svejk.
It's named after the Good Soldier Svejk, a character (and novel) by Jaroslav Hašek. They even had a picture of Svejk on the wall outside. We had to eat there of course!

They had huge pretzels! Yum.

At one restaurant we could order cocktails!

I ordered a Cuba Libre.
It was a very good cocktail and I wouldn't mind drinking it again sometime.

I also got to order these really big French fries.
They didn't have mayonaise or Ranch dressing though, so I ate the French fries with ketchup.

It wasn't all beer and booze I drank in Prague in case a certain Wench is wondering. I also had this delicious Ice Coffee.

And while we were in Prague my friend the Armadillo had his birthday, so we celebrated his birthday with Slivovice (plum brandy).

Prague - Statues and Such

While we were in Prague I got to take the Metro!
In Groningen we do not have a Metro so I thought it was really exciting all those tunnels deep beneath the city.

I spotted a drain cover for Beanie!

We also went to see the Charles Bridge.
The Charles Bridge is a very beautiful bridge full of statues and with towers on both sides of the bridge. Here I'm standing at the tower at the entrance on the side of the old town.

Next to the bridge there's a statue of the Charles who ordered the building of the bridge.

Here I'm standing in front of the statue of Jan Hus, who's some kind of religious hero. He got burned at the stake on 6 july 1415. The Czech people still have a religious holiday in memory of Hus on July 6th. This statue is on the Old Town Square, close to the St. Nicolas Church I showed you yesterday.

I spotted this statue in a small park.
I couldn't figure out who she is, so I think it's just some random lady.

And this stone lady was in yet another park. Trying to hide herself in a small tree. Or maybe she was looking for apples.

Beautiful Prague - Churches and other Buildings

I took so many pictures I decided not to do a chronological account, but make a couple of posts showing you some of all the beautiful things I saw.

One of the first buildings I saw after we reached the city center of Prague was the National Museum. It is said to be even more beautiful on the inside, but we didn't get to it to visit the museum to see if that is true.

Prague is full of buildings that are decorated in Barock style. You only have to look up and you see all kinds of decorations in yellow, red and other colours.

There's also lots of towers and such. We were on our way to one of the old towers when we spotted this one and thought we had reached our destination. It turned out to be another tower than the one we were looking for.

Next to the tower there was a small church with this beautiful statue outside.

After some more walking we reached the tower we had set out to see.

It used to be a gate into the city, but it looks like the city grew a lot since it was build as now it's somewhere in the middle of the city.

On the Old City Square I saw this church peeking out from behind some houses. It's called the Tyn Church.

The weird thing about this church is that it's completely stuck between the houses. You can reach the entrance through a small corridor. As you can see the houses are attached to the church. Very strange.

On the other side of the square is another church: The St. Nicolas Church.

This is one of the statues on the outside of the St. Nicolas Church. I wonder who it is as it doesn't look much like the bearded Saint Nicolas I know and who brings us presents every year on December 5th. Maybe it's Saint Nicolas when he was young.

It's Saint George I think as he's slaying a dragon.

And as last picture for today another statue of a saint, but I'm not sure what saint it is.

A Long Journey

Last weekend my owner told me we'd be without internet for about a week. On Monday I discovered why: We were going on a 6 day trip!

We left very early and had to take a train to a town called Hengelo.

In Hengelo there was a tour bus that we had to board and then we made a very long bus ride: almost 11 hours! Luckily my owner had packed some books so I could read to pass the time.

We made a few stops and at one of the stops I saw these cool birds.

This bird was talking in German and my owner told me that was because we were in Germany! But we had to travel even further.

The weather was grey and rainy all day.
But it did look beautiful at times.

Late in the evening we got to a hotel and my owner told me this was where we were staying all week. We had traveled for almost 14 hours to get here.

The beds were soft and comfortable and I slept well after such a long day.

The next morning I found out we were staying in Hotel Globus.

Prague
How exciting!

On other news:

It was beautiful weather yesterday and my owner took me shopping. Here I am admiring the A-Church.

Today it's cold and grey so when my owner went grocery shopping I stayed safe and warm inside her bag.

Trading Cards

There was mail for Voodoo Bride this week!
She got these trading cards from Thea Harrison, the author of Dragon Bound. Voodoo Bride loved Dragon Bound is really looking forward to reading Thea's next book Storm's Heart and now she has these trading cards to drool over until Storm's Heart is released.
