A trip to Amsterdam

We planned to celebrate Sint Maarten today, but due to circumstances our plans had to be cancelled and instead we decided to make a trip to Amsterdam.

It was very rainy all the way to Amsterdam, luckily we were going by train so it didn't bother us.

We had this really tasty candy to eat on the train: Anijsegeltjes (anise hedgehogs). It's liquorice covered with anise.

At the station in Amsterdam they had lots of billboards with poems on them. I really liked this one and thought Hammie might like it too.

On the Dam (a large square in Amsterdam) we paid a visit to the national monument which was totally covered with pidgeons.

As you can see there was even a pidgeon balancing on the nose of this stone dog.

Look: a water lock that was named Pig Lock!

We visited some clothing shops and at one shop there was this huge pirate voodoo doll! He was very friendly and I had a little chat with him while my owner was browsing for clothes.

Well...... I'm insulted!
A pig would never do such a thing on a doorstep!

Here I am with a distant relative and some other animals we encountered at a store that sold plushies. My relative was a bit gloomy I must say.

Sight Seeing!
As you can see it was cloudy and grey but luckily it only rained a little from time to time.

I really like this house, it's very pretty I think.

A store full of comics and graphic novels! Sooooooo tempting.

I really liked this one as it had a badger as a lead character, but it was very expensive.
We did buy some other comics though.

After all our shopping was done we had something to eat and then we took a train home again. All in all I had a great day.

A package! - A post from Canada by Moira

I got a package in the mail!!!
Well, actually my housemate did but I am sure it has something inside for me!

And I was right!! Meet my very own Voodoo Doll!!
She is adorable, but we haven't found out her name yet...we will though!

Art, Game and Voodoo Doll

This strange statue thing is on a square that we pass almost every day on our way to work. Usually there's lots of people standing around it as there's a school and a bus stop close by, but on saturday morning especially during school holidays it's deserted, so a nice opportunity to take a picture. I think it looks like a weird tree, but my owner's OH thinks it looks like a schematic of arteries.

After work we went into town and my owner bought me this McPig sized dice game called 'Regenwormen' (worms, or a more correct translation: rainworms). My owner and her OH already own the big (normal) version of the game, but this one is not only suitable for me, it can also be brought along on trips very easily. Useless fact: This game is made in Germany and originally it's called 'Heckmeck am Bratwurmeck'.

No, this isn't Moira who flew all the way from Canada if that's what you think! This is Moira's brother Gavin. When in town we found him a voodoo doll! Voodoo Bride is very happy with the new voodoo doll (who's called Bee) as it's a girl too. So now they can have girlish talks from time to time. And Moira: expect a small something coming your way in the near future (if we manage to fit in a trip to the post office).

Snail or Slug and a Giant Voodoo Doll!

There was a snail on our balcony today allthough it wasn't even raining.

Here's a close up of the snail.
It's a snail right? Or is it a slug? It's another one of those things that I always get confused. Here we call all snail-like critters 'slak'. We just put something in front of the word slak to make sure everyone knows what kind of 'slak' we're talking about: Huisjesslak (the kind like in the picture, means house snail/slug as it has it's house on it's back), naaktslak (naked slug/snail, the kind without a shell), waterslak (water snail/slug, the kind that you find in the water). Anyway: this is my favourite kind of 'slak'. I think they're very beautiful.

On to the really cool news of today:

When we were in town to get our shopping done we saw this giant voodoo doll!
It was in the shopwindow of the bookstore, because it's the month of the suspense books this month. All month they have a showcase on thrillers and other suspense books and you can get a discount on lots of them too. In the background you can see the book my owner's OH got for free yesterday too: you get it for free everytime you buy a book this month it turns out.

Zombie Chicken?

Today I was chased by this chicken!

Not sure if it was a Zombie Chicken as it didn't have a funny smell or lose any bodyparts, but it's neck was very crooked and it's head swinging from side to side as it chased me and Voodoo Bride. Luckily I managed to escape and rescue Voodoo Bride in the process.

Work, Voodoo doll and Pie!!

We had to work again today.

Here I am hanging out in one of the pockets of my owner's jacket.

And here I am with my little voodoo doll, who's name is simply 'Voodoo Bride'.

She's a bit camera-shy so that's why she's not in many pictures with me, but I almost always take her with me. Usually she can be found in my travellingbag.

This evening we made a blueberry/blackberry pie!

This is my owner's apron.
He's called Rudolph for obvious reasons.

All set to start on the pie.

I even got my own apron.

I had my own bowl to sit in so I wouldn't step in the flour or the berries.

It is a very special pie as you can see: it is especially made for pigs.

It turned out a bit pale but it smells delicious!
