On our gazillionth trip to the hardware store for wood and paint and such I saw they had build a Christmas display. Now I am of the opinion that there shouldn't be any Christmassy stuff anywhere before Sinterklaas (which is on the 5th of December) I have to admit this penguin and bear were really cool!

Penguin and Bear
On our gazillionth trip to the hardware store for wood and paint and such I saw they had build a Christmas display. Oh, we have similar opinions on how soon people should set up Christmas displays! My mother insists on having them up by mid-November (Sigh!)--but at least she's not as bad as many store managers in the Philippines, who often start in October, if they can. =(
Yes, I think a significant December date would be a good time to start "tinseling up"--whether the memorial of St. Nicholas or the first Sunday of Advent or even (if you're really hard-nosed about it, which I'm not!) Rogate Sunday.
I once read a Historical set in Georgian England by an author who is generally respected for her accuracy about the past. Apparently, it used to be traditional to wait until Christmas Eve itself before "decking the halls with boughs of holly" and other greenery! Admittedly, though, that was in the days when the big celebration was saved for Twelfth Night.
*gets off soapbox looking a little embarrassed at her rant/lecture*
But I love the penguin and the bear you posed with, Sully! I wish I could have been there to take pictures, too. =)
Both totally rock!
penguin is fabulous!!! i wanna one in my bedroom,lol
SO cute! Its getting closer to xmas!!!! :)
Thanks everyone!
@Enbrethiliel: Finally someone who agrees!
We always celebrate St Nicholas Eve (Sinterklaas (avond)) here on the 5th with presents and such instead of giving presents at Christmas and therefor I really think the Christmas stuff should only be put up on the 7th at the earliest. (except for the advent calendar)
I don't like seeing them before Thanksgiving (usually last week in Nov). Those decorations are pretty cute!
The stores here started putting their Christmas decorations on display before Halloween. :(
I'd like that bear for in front of my house though. :)
We would like some rules for Christmas things too! but also for Sinterklaas, there was Sinterklaas stuff for sale in august!!!! That's far to soon! Don't think the shops will listen though....
