Schiermonnikoog - part 1

Yesterday we went to Schiermonnikoog, a small island on the north coast of the Netherlands.
I think it's one of the most beautiful spots of the Netherlands and relatively close to where we live, so the posts about Schiermonnikoog are dedicated to Cindy, who wanted to see pictures of beautiful places. Tomorrow's post will also be for
Hammie btw!

We left very early in the morning so we could spend the whole day at Schiermonnikoog. We took a bus to the harbor of Lauwersoog and there we took the ferry to Schiermonnikoog. On the ferry we had something to drink and played worms.

We also went outside on the deck. It was lovely weather, one of the hottests days this year sofar and the view was beautiful. The picture I posted yesterday was also taken on the ferry.

When we reached Schiermonnikoog we had to board another bus. This one took us to the village on the island, which is also called Schiermonnikoog. Once in the village we rented some bikes and we bought food and and drink (lots of that because of the heat) and then we had a look at the secondhand book store where we saw:

Alice's adventures in Wonderland!
We didn't buy it as we already have another version of this book at home, but we just had to take a picture for Eve
My owner did buy a book for me, but I'll tell about that in another post soon.

Our shopping done, we went to the visitor center because:

Next to the visitor center is one of the most beautiful places on Schiermonnikoog!
Sadly enough it probably won't stay like this for much longer as there are plans to build a whole new complex of buildings on this spot as they seem to think it might attract more visitors to the island....

Next up was a visit to the bunker, which was build by the germans during WWII. There used to be a whole german 'village' around it according to my owner's OH, but the bunker is about all that's left.

From the bunker you have a gorgeous view. On clear days, like it was yesterday, you can see the whole island.

One of the things I love about Schiermonnikoog is that as small as it is it has all the landscapes I love: beaches, dunes and forest.

From the bunker it was a very short trip to the beach and once we were there my owner and her OH went for a swim while I took a well deserved rest.

Tune in tomorrow for part 2 of my trip to Schiermonnikoog.

It's hard going somewhere so cool or beautiful and doing a small post, right?!? Always tough for me.

Oh and I agree w/Hammie...feels like you're there with you. Take care~

Thanks everyone
And I love taking pictures that I know my blogging friends will like, so if there's anything you like to see: shout :-)

@Eve: actually that is a water tower according to my owner's OH. But It looks suspiciously the same as a lighthouse so maybe it used to be one in the past.
