Speculaasjes

We baked speculaasjes today!
They're cookies that have special speculaas spices in them. They're very tasty.

The squirrel ones are great?

Will you share your recipe, or is a family secret? ;-)

I Googled "speculaaskruiden" to find a recipe for the spices. ;)

@Enbrethiliel: Here you can just buy packages of ready made speculaas spices, but if you want to make it yourself:

You can just make normal cookiedough for cookies and add the speculaas spices to it.

I think speculaas is close to gingerbread in taste, but I never had gingerbread so I'm not entirely sure.

You never had gingerbread??? Oh, I can feel a shopping trip and a care package coming on!!!
Your cookies look yummy too!

Sullivan, Ben wants to know: do you eat the cookies plain, or do you decorate them with icing or frosting? Papa says he thinks they would be good plain with coffee, but Jerry thinks some icing drizzled on the tops of the cookies would be nice.

@Beanie: :-D
@Jerry and Ben: I like them best plain with hot chocolate, but some people like to sprinkle sugar on the cookies before they go into the oven to make them sweeter. I never saw speculaas cookies with frosting, but it might be tasty.

Thank you Sullivan! Papa says he's going to make some for Christmas, we can't wait to taste them; and we're going to have them plain like you!
