Gilbert - A Trip to Drenthe

Yesterday we went on a trip!
We got a car and drove to Drenthe.

We were going to Balloo where there is a large field of heather that's called BalloĆ«rveld. Sullivan has been there in the past and told me to visit the sheep.

Hmm... No sheep in the sheep barn. It was a beautiful day, so they were out among the heather.

It is beautiful here, I must say.

Blue skies and open fields.

Finally I found the sheep!

They were ambling along and having fun in the sun.

This sheep was feeling itchy!

After a nice walk we went back to the car and drove to Rolde, where we got something to drink at a cafeteria. The weather was nice enough to sit outside.

And we got French fries with mayonaise, peanut sauce, and onions!

Yum Yum!

We also visited the church in Rolde.

It seems birds claimed this mailbox. The sign says: bird nest, no mail

Inside the church was this fun distancing sign, using sheep to sheep how much distance you should keep.

There was on old baptismal font with a fish drawing above it.

And beautiful stained glass windows.

Before driving back home we walked past the graveyard of the church to visit this hunebed. It was a perfect day!

Sheep Shearing Festival

Today we went to the Sheep Shearing Festival in the park.
The city sheep were getting a shave to get rid of their woolly coat, so they don't get too hot this summer.

These sheep were still waiting for their turn.

These two told me they were looking forward to getting a nice shave.

There were also market stalls with all kinds of woolly stuff.

Oh, green silk wool! Just my color.

There was also a stand with really yummy cheese.

It was a fun afternoon.
My owner got me some purple wool, and we will see if we can make something cool with it.

A Snowy Walk

We went for a walk today.
I hadn't expected snow anymore this year, so I had already put away my woolly hat. I sure could have used it though.

Oh, mushrooms!
My owner told me these are called fairy benches because fairies use them to sit on. These looked a bit too small for me, so I didn't try out how comfortable they are.

We also encountered some sheep and some goats.

They came over to see if we had something to eat for them, but I hadn't expected to meet sheep and goats on our walk, so I had to disappoint them.

After our walk we were thirsty so we went to a restaurant where I spotted a ladybug sticker for Hammie...

And we had a nice drink.
