Gilbert - Food & Other Stuff

We went for something to eat at the museum restaurant.
They had this cool T-Rex who guarded the butter.

I got a musgroom sandwich and soup.

And a dinosaur shaped box with candy!

After we ate we visited the LiveScience room.
Here you can see how the scientists do their work, try things yourself, and learn more about the history of the museum and the research they do.

We didn't try anything, but looked around at all the stuff they had on display in this room.

These... were kind of creepy, especially as we had just read a horror book where there was a scene with lots of ladybugs that was... unsettling.

Butterflies.

Then it was time to find our hotel and get some rest.

We walked past this building.
I think it used to be part of the hospital.

We checked in at the hotel and took it easy for a few hours: reading and resting.

In the evening we went into town for a drink.
I saw this mill on the way to the cafe.

After a drink (or 2) we got food and then went back to the hotel.

The next morning I woke up in a field of flowers.

Just kidding!
This picture was in our hotel room.

Which had a window looking out on the hallway, btw.
Very strange.

After breakfast we checked out of the hotel.
We went to my owner's appointment and afterward we took a 3 hour trip back home.

I had a lot of fun!

Gilbert - Dinosaurs & Other Stuff

At the Triceratops exhibit there was also this replica skull with a sort of magnifier.

If you turned the magnifier the shadow behind the skull changed!

It showed how the skull of a Triceratops changed when growing up into an adult Triceratops.

Baby Triceratopses hatching.

One last glance at the herd.

Next we visited a room that was set up like a cabinet of curiosities.
It had lots of taxidermy.

The hive of bees or wasps, I think.

This was the 'horny wall'.

There was a room about animals in the ice age.

In the middle of the room there was a diorama with all kinds of animals that lived during the ice age.

The skeleton of a cave bear!

It was really cool, but we were getting a bit hungry, as we hadn't eaten since breakfast. So we went in search of food.

Next: food and other stuff

Gilbert - Lots of Dinosaurs (part 2)

We already saw lots of dinosaurs at Naturalis, but then we came to one of their coolest exhibits:

A T-Rex!

This T-Rex is named Trix.
It's because it's a female T-Rex, and as T-Rexes are the kings of the dinosaurs this female T-Rex is named after the former queen of the Netherlands: Beatrix. And Trix is also close to T-Rex of course.

Isn't she cool!

Trix was in lots of fights and even had an infection near her nose, and you can see some of the damage that has done on the fossil. Still sge probably reached an impressive age for a T-Rex, judging by the size of her.

Next we went to another really cool dino exhibit about Triceratopses..

This animated Triceratops was at the entry to the exhibit.

And a Triceratops kid.

A Triceratops herd!

This herd was found all together at the same place. They probably got caught in a flood and ended up buried beneath clay and sand.

There were fun moving decorations placed around the herd.

And there was this cool construction where you could look at Triceratops bones and try to find where the Triceratops got hurt.

I had to try of course

Steering the light to a place I think is a wound.

And...

I found a spot where the Triceratops was bit by a T-Rex!

It was both fun and interesting.

Next: yes, more Triceratopses.
