A Trip to Utrecht

Yesterday we went on a trip to Utrecht.
First we had to take a bus and a train ride. Luckily I brought my new Zombie book along.

Here I am at the Dom tower in Utrecht.
The Dom tower is the most famous building in Utrecht. It used to be part of a church, but during a big storm a large part of the church collapsed and from then on the tower wasn't connected to the church anymore.

On the Dom square I saw this statue of a count.

I also spotted a doorway to a small courtyard.

It had a carving of Saint Maarten on it.

And here I am in the courtyard.
This is the cloister garden of the Dom Church.

In the middle of the garden there was a small fountain.

It had gargoyles on it!

At the far side of the garden you could see the Dom tower.

After our visit to the cloister garden we did some shopping and then stopped for a nice hot drink before exploring Utrech some more.

I saw a chameleon and a frog.

And at another church I spotted a pineapple statue.

Utrecht is a very cool city I think.
It has many beautiful canals.

When dusk set in we decided to find a restaurant to get something to eat.

We had a table at the window with a view on the entrance of the restaurant.

Here I am relaxing with a nice glass of beer after a long, but fun day of shopping and sightseeing.

When we left the restaurant there were colored lights under the bridges over the canals. Very beautiful! A perfect ending to a great day out.

What a nice adventure. We've never been to Utrecht, but hopefully some day we'll get to see it!

Lol if you leave the t of the word Utrecht, you should write it like we say it: Utreg.
If only I had know you were coming to my city, I could have met your for a cup of tea in a restaurant. But thanks for the lovely pics!

Utrecht wants to become culturale headcity (hoofdstad) of Europe in 2017. Which is why they are playing with light all over the old parts of the ciy, including the bridges. Which is lovely.

Next time, I advise you to take a canal boat for a "rondvaart", only takes an hour, and is certainly worth it.

Did you see that enormous statue of the "Haas" on the Neude? Big isore, modelled after the famous "thinker" statue. Sometimes the students dress him up, but city council iw not happy with that.

D'oh! I hasn't noticed I missed that t.
And I didn't know you lived in Utrecht!

We didn't see "Haas". Sounds like we need to visit Utrecht again somewhere in the future.
