Spekkoek and Chocolade Kruidnoten!
Some tradional food for Moira today:
This is Spekkoek! A rough translation would be 'bacon cake'. it's not called Spekkoek because there's bacon in it, but because it's layered like bacon. Spekkoek is a cake that's Dutch-Indonesian from origin and was first made during colonial times. As my owner's father used to bake it (probably having learned how to bake it from his parents who lived in Indonesia for awhile) it's a cake that my owner really loves. She still has to gather the courage to bake one herself some day, but luckily it's also for sale at the grocery store where we do our shopping.
More tradional food: Kruidnoten (a type of gingerbread-biscuits).These are my favourite kind: they're covered with chocolate. The more tradional kind are without the chocolate and they are only for sale from september till the start of december as it's a tradional food to eat and give as present at Sinterklaas.

Crane, Clouds, Mushrooms and Thistle
No time to walk to Garnwerd this sunday, but we did go for a short walk and we encountered this crane that was in the middle of a meadow. I wonder why it was there as there were also sheep in the meadow.
There were lots of dark clouds, but luckily it didn't rain while we were out for our walk.
I also found these mushrooms. I didn't dare pick them as I don't know what kind it was and they could be poisonous or endangered.
A thistle! Isn't it beautiful. Thistles are among my favourite flowers.

Stuff that happened at work this week
Thursday I noticed this weird fellow on one of the notice boards. He wears a shirt claiming he spends our money. Hmmmm.... I'm keeping an eye on him.
My owner had to work till 9 in the evening on thursday, so I took a small nap (I did ask my owner to keep an eye on the weird fellow while I slept.)
On friday there were these cool monsters in the newspaper!
There was also a big bowl of smiling flowers standing in the hall on friday. It turned out to be national call center agent day and the flowers were a gift from the company to all the employees. There was also candy and other things to eat and two guys who came by our desk to offer a shoulder and neck massage.
Here I am with my smiling flower. We took it home and now it's standing next to the computer.Friday, September 4, 2009
Moira returns with an even bigger update!
Emu anyone? I didn't get too close though because it was eyeing me up - hehehe
We spent a day at the Zoo - Here I am with a giraffe!
Princess and I on a pig statue!
Some bathing beauties for Sullivan's owner!
Here you can see the hippos on their way to being fed!
Another critter that was HUGE!
Another creature I wasn't going to get too close too...she was beautiful but wow, was she big! No little housecat that's for sure.
And then the trip was over, and here I can be seen leaving the Rockies
Another river, and one thing we noticed is how blue they all were in comparison to the muddier looking ones around here.
We arrived in Drumheller, Alberta, and was greeted by this big fella! The largest dinosaur in all the world!!
Princess with a boa constrictor named Brittany.I didn't get too close in fear of being mistaken for food... I am little and pink you know, just like the baby mice and rats it gets!
I met a very nice fella that was kind enough to take me for a walk ;)Thursday, September 3, 2009
Victoria - An update by Sullivan's cousin Moira
Hi Sullivan and Sullivan's followers! I've been on some lovely trips and here are some pictures and stories for you. There will be more tomorrow!
My first view of the Rocky Mountains on our way to Victoria!
Getting closer!
The mountains are starting to surround us, and boy, are they beautiful!
One of the many breathtaking views I saw - this is the Athabasca River
Some beautiful scenery at Butchart Gardens in Victoria.
A pig! Well, actually a boar, but he was pretty handsome.
The Japanese Garden was filled with beautiful trees at Butchart Gardens, and this one was a good one to stop and have a rest on.
One of my favorite flowers! The black eyed Susan.
My absolute favorite flower - the Hydrangea - so beautiful and so delicate.Well, that's it for today, I'll be back tomorrow with more pictures!
