Thursday evening my owner and me went to a house-warming party of one of our colleagues.

It was a really fun evening with lots of yummy food, fun people and good times.

And chocolate...

And Dropshot!
We had to work the next day so I tried to go easy on the Dropshot. I think I succeeded: I didn't have a terrible hangover the next morning.

On other news:
some more birthday presents arrived!

I got these two books from the amazing Susi.

And my owner's brother send us this really cool CD.

This evening we went out for dinner in the center of town at a restaurant called 'La Place'.

I always love going to this restaurant as it high up in a building and has a great view. This evening there were some beautiful skies as the sun was going down.

Yesterday evening we went to a birthday party and we played a lot of card games. I really liked this one: Monopoly Deal. I won the game three times!

Today I'm taking it easy and I'm reading comics. This one has pigs in it.

A Mouse, a Church and a Book

Today we had more visitors coming over for my owner's birthday.
She got this really cool metal mouse, which can also be used as a piggy bank. (Or mouse bank in this case ;-)

She also got a gift certificate, so of course we went into town to see if we could spend it.

It was cold and rainy today, but when we were in town it was dry and there were some beautiful clouds.

In case you're wondering: these pictures were taken at the A-Church.

And we found a book at the bookstore across from the A-Church!
This book has been on my wishlist for some time, so I was glad my owner decided to buy this book with her gift certificate.

We've been really spoilt with gifts for our birthday I must say.

Angels in the Mail

Today I recieved yet more bookish mail.
I won a copy of Angels of Darkness over at the blog of Meljean Brook. There's four stories about angels in this book by four different authors. I have read and enjoyed books by all four authors so I'm looking forward to reading this book. Meljean also send along some cards, a bookmark and trading cards. Isn't that cool!?

Lots of Treats

I had a really great birthday and when we got back to work on Tuesday my owner and me brought chocolate as a late birthday treat for our co-workers.

It turned out that one of our co-workers also had a birthday and brought treats as well, so we had lots and lots of treats.

When we got home there was a present for us send by Jess. She send us chocolate-peanutbutter treats and a coverflat of her next book. What a cool surprise!

Today it's the birthday of me and and my owner!

Yesterday my owner's family came to visit for her birthday and she got these Snowdrops from her mother among other things. Snowdrops are our favorite flowers.

And my owner's friend Jan send a hippo bookmark.

I finally got to open the present my owner bought me.
Even though some of my online friends tried to convince my owner to get me the farting pig game, it was clear from the size of the present she hadn't listened to them.

It turned out to be a zombie book!
In my opinion zombies are even better than a farting pig game and I've heard many good things about this book, so I'm looking forward to reading it.

And look what an awesome card we got from Hammie.

Cookies and Other Yummy Stuff

Yesterday me and my owner baked cookies.

We had really cool animal shaped cookie cutters.
There even was a pig!

This evening we went out for dinner with friends to celebrate the birthday of my owner's best friend. We went to our favorite restaurant, but instead of going to the Wok restaurant we tried their Fusion Cuisine. It was really yummy. They had all kinds of different oriental snacks and such.

They had a drum with animals on it.

and a Geisha with a parasol.

It was a fun evening!

Shopping for Presents

Today we had our first outing in over a week.
My owner had to buy presents for some birthdays and she also was going to buy a present for me!

I saw this pig, who doubled as a huge slipper) at our favorite store (Hammie knows which one I mean).

And at a toy shop I spotted a piggy game!
In this game you have to lure a pig from a muddy field, but if you do it wrong the pig farts. I asked my owner if she would get me the piggy game, but she said she wasn't going to buy me a game with a farting pig.

My owner finally did buy me something when I was taking a nap in her bag, so I didn't see what she got me and she told me I will have to wait until Monday to get my present. I'm so curious!!

Luckily there was some awesome mail when we got home to take my mind of the mysterious present:

I know I've been awfully quiet this week, but my owner had the flu so we stayed home all week. We've been reading and such, so nothing much to tell. But as of today my owner is up and about again, so I hope to be doing something besides reading soon.

Beanie Book Mail

Today I received a package from Beanie.
He send me a beautiful card and a Manga book he found.

I'm very happy with the book.
It's the first book in the Manga series Battle Royale. It's based on a novel with the same title. I haven't read the novel, but I have seen the movie Battle Royale which is also based on that novel and I love that movie.

It's about a class that is brought to a deserted island where they have to fight each other until only one of them is left alive. It's a very brutal story about human nature.

I'm so happy with it. It will go on my shelf with my favorite books, right next to the signed copy of Mind Games (the first book in the awesome Disillusionists trilogy).

Now I just need to find a way to get a signed copy of Head Rush once that releases in print.

Yesterday the last book we ordered with the spending money we got from Sinterklaas arrived! I already read this book because I borrowed it from a friend, but it was such a cool book I wanted to have my own copy. Once again: thanks Sinterklaas!

A Present and Cake

It's Christmas so we got to open the present my owner's friend Jan send us!

It turned out to be chocolate and a really cool Christmas Stocking!

When I investigated the stocking it turned out it there was chocolate inside!

This afternoon I helped my owner with baking a Bundt cake

I checked if we had all the right ingredients.

And I supervised the mixing.

When it was done we put some powdered sugar on it.

And I got to taste the cake of course!

Today at work we got a Christmas card from a co-worker and she had put a chocolate Christmas ornament on the envelope. How fun! We put the ornament in our tree when we got home.

We also got two packages today!
We got a beautiful card and a present for under the Christmas tree from my owner's friend Jan and we got a card, minty chocolate and a cool Piglet Pez dispenser from Jerry & Ben.

Lovecraft

Today we received a belated Sinterklaas present.
My owner and her OtherHalf had gotten some spending money from Sinterklaas and they spend the money by ordering some books.

And this is one of those books!
The Complete Fiction by H.P. Lovecraft.

It has all of Lovecraft's stories, including one of my all time favorite short stories: 'The Temple'. I will certainly enjoy reading this book.

New Books for Voodoo Bride

This evening we hurried to the bookstore to pick up a book that Voodoo Bride had ordered. It turned out they had a special Christmas shopping surprise for all customers: Everyone got a coupon that was worth 5 euro. So suddenly Voodoo Bride could not just buy one book, but two! And we also got to participate in a lottery where I won a button!

What a cool shopping trip.

Today a present arrived for my owner.
I kept a close watch while she unpacked it, because you never know what might be inside. Maybe it would be something I would like as well.

There was a beautiful card that came with the present. The card and present were send by my owner's friend Goth Gerbil.

They will feel right at home here: my owner has a large herd of hippos under her care so they will have lots of friends.

Dice and Contagious Mail

There were two cool packages today!
The first was an invitation to a Game of the Year party and contained dice! I think you can never have too may dice.

The other package was wrapped in Sinterklaas wrapping paper and had a poem attached to it. The poem said this present was late because Black Pete had gotten ill when wrapping it.

Let's see what's inside.

Swine Flu?
Aaaaaaarghh!!!

Luckily it turned out to be friendly and fluffy Swine Flu.

The fluffy Swine Flu showed me what else was in the package: Wals met Bashir (Waltz with Bashir) a beautifully drawn graphic novel about the 1982 invasion of Lebanon.

Thank you, Sinterklaas and Black Pete for these awesome presents!

And now that Sinterklaas has gone back to Spain it's time to decorate for Christmas!

Taai Taai and Presents

Yesterday afternoon I helped my owner bake Taai Taai.
It's a traditional treat for Sinterklaasavond just as Speculaas.

After eating lots of yummy food and Taai Taai and such it was time for unwrapping presents!

I also got a really big chocolate letter covered with walnuts and such.

Sinterklaas!!

Convention Time

Today I helped out promoting and selling games at a Multi Media convention. (I know board and card games aren't very Multi Media, but we were trying to show people that those games are just as fun as computer games.)

I got to try this weird electronic Rubik's cube thing.

I also played a game where you have to operate on a patient.
It was a fun game.

Lunch!

There was a train riding around the convention!
I really wanted to ride on the train, but we were to busy working to find time to catch the train.

All in all I had a fun day.

Why I Almost Fainted Today!

When my owner and me arrived at work today a co-worker told us Sinterklaas had visited our department. I was disappointed that I'd missed his visit, but our co-worker had made a photo of Sinterklaas to show us.

And Sinterklaas left us a present!
There was a poem attached to the present telling us our hard work is appriciated.

The present was speculaas with almond paste filling!

Yum!

After hearing all about Sinterklaas' visit, me and my owner started our work.

But then.......

Sinterklaas dropped by again!
It was a very grand moment for me to meet him! He even posed with me for a picture. I was very nervous and being held by Sinterklaas almost made me faint.

This is a moment I'll never forget!

An Early Sinterklaas Present

Each player has to try to create a gang and the player who recruits the most gangsters wins the game.

A Trip To Ikea

This evening my owner and her OtherHalf took me on a shopping trip to IKEA

There was a big sign with a J on it near our car. My owner told me the sign was so we could easily find our car again.

We had arrived at IKEA around dinner time so we had something to drink...

Suitcases and Art

GR'NN, a group of comicbook artists (including my owner's OtherHalf), is celebrating its 15th anniversary with a big expo and yesterday was the opening of that expo. My owner helped out a few times with transporting stuff for the expo, so me and my owner were invited to the opening.

First there was a speech and then music by a group called 'Men in a Suitcase'. They played a song about an elephant among others.

Then the expo was officially opened and we could go watch all the art there.

Look: there's the chicken leg!
It was part of a fairytale diorama, build in a suitcase. The theme of the expo was travelling and they had made lots of suitcase dioramas.

A dragon!

Next to the suitcase dioramas there were lots of cool and beautiful paintings and drawings and such.

This suitcase had a food theme.

A drawing that's both cute and creepy.

And there was a hedgehog shrine!
Isn't that cool!?

Hey.... Wait a minute!
Something looks familiar here.

It's the rabid, mutant zombie beastie!!
I had wondered where he had disappeared to. It turned out he had volunteered to be part of the expo.

And there's Cerberus!
He's also part of one of the dioramas.

I decided to take part in the expo too.

This artwork is both beautiful and it makes me itchy.

I'm not sure what this one is about, but it looks cool.

Another one that's both beautiful and creepy.

All in all this is one beautiful and impressive expo!

After the opening of the expo we went out for dinner with the artists and some other people. We had yummy food and I had hot chocolate for dessert.

Pyramids and Dragons

Yesterday evening we tried out some new games.
First a game where you had to stack pyramid thingies on top of each other. It wasn't very challenging in my opinion, so I won't be playing it again.

Next we played Dragon's Gold.
In this game you have to fight dragons and haggle over the dividing of the dragon's treasure once the dragon is defeated. It was a fun game and I managed to get the most treasure!

Sinterklaas

This Saturday my owner's OtherHalf saw Sinterklaas.
Sinterklaas visits the Netherlands every year and on December 5th he brings lots of presents to everyone, but he always comes early so he can check up on people and see if they have been good and if they deserve their presents. And when he has just arrived he sometimes brings a small present for those who put out a shoe I'm told.

So yesterday evening me and the armadillo decided to put out our shoes (well, we borrowed some shoes anyway). We put a carrot with the shoes for Sinterklaas' horse and we sang some special songs for Sinterklaas as well.

First thing we did this morning is check the shoes to see if Sinterklaas brought us a present.

And there was indeed a present in the shoe I put out!

Yum!

There was also a present in the shoe that the armadillo put out.

Little chocolate figures of Sinterklaas and Black Pete.

Oh, this is fun! I wonder if we get to do this again or if we now have to wait for December 5th. I'm going to say my proper thanks to Sinterklaas anyway so he knows I appreciate the present he left me:

On our way to work my owner bought something to drink. I was a bit surprised to see that the bottle she bought was wearing a hat!

As the hat looked warm and was about my size I tried it on of course. I'm all set for winter now!

Lots of Mail - Now with Zombies

My mailbox was overflowing today!

Susi from Book Lovers Inc send me a really cool Joely Sue Burkhart swag-pack. It had trading cards, a pen and bookmarks!

Beanie send me a small purse in the shape of a bus!
Isn't it cool!? I can use it to put money or something like that in it when I go on a journey.

And from the Epic Rat I received this awesome Zombie Surprise Pack! I won it at a zombie giveaway over at the Epic Rat's blog. I especially love the zombie bunny, but the game, buttons and Survival Guide are awesome as well.

Another Halloween Party

Today we went on a trip.
My owner told me to wear my mummy costume.
On the trainride I got coffee and a pastry thingie with cherry-filling. Yum!

This is the St. Nicholas Church in Kampen!

It turned out we were going to visit my good friend Witje. He was celebrating Halloween as well. And look what a cool mask he had!

There were lots of other animals at the party as well.

And special Halloweenish chocolate!

And I got to play a fun game!
This is the character I played in the game: an elvish wizard who could cast fireballs and such.

The characters had to find treasure and fight monsters in a creepy dungeon. My elf got to fight giant spiders and ghouls. It was lots of fun.

In the evening we had to go home again.
It was a really great day!

Early Halloween

This evening we had an early Halloween celebration, but first we went into town to see if I could find a costume.

At the store where they sell party stuff and costumes we saw the piggie banks and champagne bottles that my owner's OtherHalf made the drawings for.

And I spotted this pig at another store!

When we got home there was a card reminding us that Heart of Steel by Meljean Brook will soon be released. Voodoo Bride was all happy with this card and is still hugging it. I myself can't understand what all the fuss is about.

We didn't manage to find a cool costume in the stores, so finally my owner made me a costume:

Mummies are a kind of zombies I think.

Our celebration was lots of fun too, but we didn't take any more pictures. I hope everyone has a really cool Halloween!

Candy and another Mandala

Today we got candy at work and one of my co-workers found pig-shaped candy for me.

Nothing much happened these last few days, apart from me and the gang trying to think up something fun to do for Halloween.

But today there was lots of mail!

Hammie send me a book about aliens!
And he also send Winnie the Pooh cross stitch patterns for my owner. So both of us were happy with this cool Hammie mail!

I started reading the Alien book right away of course.
Aren't these aliens cool!?

And there were two books in the mail that were send to us by Stella! Both books were on my wishlist, so I'm very happy with these as well.

Work on Saturday

Today my owner had to work so I went with her of course. I spend most day hanging out in my owner's bag.

I got an apple for lunch!

And now I can finally start my weekend.
I'm going to read The Spirit Thief, book 1 in the Eli Monpress series. My mailman finished reading the book so delivered it yesterday.*

*I won the first three books in the Eli Monpress series over at Mel's Random Reviews and book 2 and 3 arrived last Monday.

Hammie visited Maastricht, a city in the South of the Netherlands. I've never been there myself, but judging it by the pictures on the card it must be a beautiful city.

Jess Haines send me an Advance Reader Copy of The Real Werewives of Vampire County, an anthology with 4 stories of which one is written by Jess.

She signed the book for us and even drew a tentacle with a monocle!

Pig Panic

We played games yesterday evening and one of the games we played was Pig Panic. It's a card game where you have to try to get rid of your cards as quickly as possible. I wasn't very good at it, but it was lots of fun.

My owner and her OtherHalf had to transport a few things for a small expo and I came with them to help out. And look who I met:

How exciting!

This afternoon there were two books for me in the mail. I won the 'Eli Monpress week giveaway' over at Mel's Random Reviews and that means I won the first three books in the Eli Monpress series. These two books are book 2 and book 3. I suspect that my mailman still has book 1 (I think he likes to read my books). I hope he will deliver it soon.

Zombies and a Movie

There was an article about zombies in the paper yesterday. It was about the Walking Dead tv series and also had a giveaway where you could win an invitation to a really cool Halloween party. I convinced my owner to enter. I hope we'll win!

Yesterday evening we went to the movies!

This is the movie we saw: The Debt.
It was about 3 Mossad agents who have to track down a war criminal from WWII.

At first the theater was very empty and I was wondering if that was because the movie wasn't that great, but just before the start of the movie the theater filled up. It turned out to be a really good movie and I really enjoyed watching it.

Another Bookish Win

And as my owner isn't taking me on any fun trips at the moment, another picture of a bookish win. It's a good thing I win so many books otherwise I'd get bored. Now at least I can read!

My owner did promise me we're going to do something fun tomorrow evening. Hmmm, I'll wait and see what she has planned.

This book has 16 short stories, some by authors that I love, and I saw that at least two of the stories have zombies in them!

Post-Apocalyptic Mail

I had amazing mail today.
I received an Advance Reader Copy of Daybreak by Ellen Connor*. It's the final book of the Dark Age Dawning Trilogy** and I already read the first two books (Nightfall and Midnight) and I absolutely love those, so I'm really looking forward to reading Daybreak. The book will be released December 6th, so I'm lucky to be able to read it so early.

There was mail from Beanie today!
He send me a Mail Art page that's for a Zombie Encyclopedia. I can write, paint, scribble, etc my interpretation of zombies on the back and send it in so it can be included in the Encylopedia. Now this sounds like fun!

Aliens in the Mail

Yesterday there was a package for me.
It had Gini Koch's Alien Collective logo on it.

An Advance Reader Copy of Alien Proliferation!
Alien Proliferation is the 4th book in Gini's Katherine (Kitty) Katt series (which is a really awesome series, I can tell you) and it will officially be released on December 6th. Guess why I didn't post on this blog yesterday:

A Shocking Discovery and Mail for Voodoo Bride

Yesterday I counted the money in my piggybank and made a shocking discovery: One of the coins was a Danish coin! How did it get in my piggybank? I can't spend Danish money here! I think my owner has been fooled and got this coin as change instead of an Euro coin. If she doesn't pay more attention I'll never get enough money for a fun trip.

Today there was mail for Voodoo Bride!
I won these signed books by Kate Pearce over at the Qwillery.
They're Paranormal Romances set in the Tudor period. Voodoo Bride already read the first two books in the series, but is very happy to now have signed copies of the books and she looks forward to reading the third book.

And the books aren't even all!
Kate also included soap, a small bottle of perfume and bookmarks of which one was hand made.

A Special City Walk

A while ago I told you I took pictures for a secret project.

Today I can tell you what that was all about!
I have a special guest over at my review blog today: Sparky Salamander.
Sparky is the sidekick of Anya in the books Embers & Sparks by Laura Bickle, but in his daily life he helps out Laura with her writing among other things.

Sparky is telling all about one of his adventures and there's also a giveaway. In honor of his visit I decided to do a special post on this blog today. I took my well read copy of Embers into town and took pictures of me and the book at some of the places I would love to show Sparky and Laura if they ever visit Groningen.

First of all I'd show them the Martini Tower of course!

And the Martini Church.

And I'd show Sparky the dragon next to the Martini Tower.

Next I'd take Sparky and Laura to the local book store where they have Dark Oracle, a book that Laura also wrote, but under her pen name Alayna Williams.
(I didn't take out my copy of Embers in the store, in case they would try to put it on the shelves to sell it.)

I know Laura loves to play card & board games. so I would also take them to see the local games store.

The A-Church is a must see building as well.

And finally on our way home for some hot chocolate and home made cake: the New Church.

There was mail for me today.

It turned out to be a book that was send to me by Selexyz as I had unlocked their Foursquare special.

Foursquare is a kind of game on your mobile phone where you can check in and earn points when you visit certain locations. Some locations have a so called Special. Selexyz' Special is that you get a free book when you visit one of their stores 10 times. Isn't that cool?

And this is the book they send me.
It's called 'The King' and the story is set in Persia during the industrial revolution. The book sounds really interesting and the first chapter starts with cows!

Going out for Dinner on a Saturday Night

This evening we went out for dinner at an Italian restaurant with a couple of our co-workers.

There was mood lighting, so the pictures turned out a bit dark and red though.

Red table cloth, red candle holder.
Yup, a lot of red.

There was lots of choice in pastas and pizzas.

My owner and me picked a pizza with mushroom, onions, brocolli, spinach, soft cheese and peppers. Yum!

My owner had hot chocolate as dessert, but one of the other had ice cream and I got to taste some!

We had lots of fun and I hope we will do this again some time soon.
