Spekkoek and Chocolade Kruidnoten!

Some tradional food for Moira today:

This is Spekkoek! A rough translation would be 'bacon cake'. it's not called Spekkoek because there's bacon in it, but because it's layered like bacon. Spekkoek is a cake that's Dutch-Indonesian from origin and was first made during colonial times. As my owner's father used to bake it (probably having learned how to bake it from his parents who lived in Indonesia for awhile) it's a cake that my owner really loves. She still has to gather the courage to bake one herself some day, but luckily it's also for sale at the grocery store where we do our shopping.

More tradional food: Kruidnoten (a type of gingerbread-biscuits).
These are my favourite kind: they're covered with chocolate. The more tradional kind are without the chocolate and they are only for sale from september till the start of december as it's a tradional food to eat and give as present at Sinterklaas.

I agree. It looks yummy. I had a friend who when she went to visit her father in England would send me nutella, but nothing this cool.

That looks yummy and I don't think I'd have the courage to try to bake it myself either.
